What materials do you use - and why?

Our first collection is made from a curated mix of fabrics, including lightweight polyester chiffon, stretch satin, mesh, viscose and cotton. We focused especially on chiffon for its drape, movement and resilience. It’s one of the few materials that could meet our design vision while withstanding heat, humidity, saltwater and sunlight. It dries quickly, resists wrinkling and holds its shape over time. Meaning perfect for travel, layering and warm climates.

We also took inspiration from swimwear textiles, materials that are practical near water but feel elegant enough to take you from the beach to dinner. These fabrics help bridge the gap between function and fashion.

Looking ahead, we will continue working with a range of materials including certified, recycled and next-generation fibres as we expand our fabric library. Each drop is guided by what best supports the design, environment and mood of the collection. Always with a focus on quality, longevity and responsible sourcing.

How do you approach sustainability beyond materials?

We believe in making purposeful decisions not just in what we create, but how we create it. From day one, we’ve aimed to build a model that prioritises transparency, small-batch production and low-impact practices.

Here’s how we think about it:

  • Better fibres, evolving over time
We’re expanding our use of certified recycled fibres, with a focus on materials that meet both performance and aesthetic goals. We test new fabrications actively and remain in close dialogue with our partners as textile innovation moves forward.
  • Designing with intention
We work in limited volumes, avoiding overproduction and allowing time for refinement. We’re are finding creative uses for leftover fabrics like limited-edition accessories or one-off add-ons in future drops and using stock fabrics at production where possible to make sure we are optimizing the use of fabrics.
  • Conscious packaging and shipping
Our packaging is made from FSC-certified paper and 100% recycled polybags. Orders ship from our Swedish warehouse, using consolidated and climate-compensated transport where possible.
  • Built to last
Every piece is designed with longevity in mind. We’re developing care resources and future support for repair, to help extend the life of your garment and reduce unnecessary waste.
Where are your clothes made - and by whom?

All Freía garments are made in Portugal, through close collaboration with two highly skilled and trusted production partners.

One all-women atelier with 28 employees. Certified with OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and GOTS, they also run social initiatives supporting vulnerable women and children through textile recycling and food exchange programs.

And one family-owned factory with 101 employees (78% women), certified with GOTS, OCS 100 and OCS Blended. Part of their operations run on solar energy, and they are committed to continuous progress in traceability, fair working conditions and innovation.

We produce in small batches, with high levels of oversight – placing emphasis on long-term partnerships, ethical practices and premium craftsmanship.

Who designs Freía - and what inspires the brand?

Freía’s creative direction is led by Hanna Friberg, who founded the brand and defines the essence of every collection from silhouette and colour to mood and styling. Her vision is grounded in freedom, sensuality and movement, with inspiration drawn from Mediterranean summers, vintage resortwear and 70s glamour.

We work with a freelance designer and pattern maker to translate her ideas into finished pieces. All prints are developed in-house, exclusively for Freía.

Do you offer swimwear?

Not yet. It’s something we’re actively exploring. We see clear synergy between beachwear and swim, and we’re excited to revisit the category in upcoming drops.

How often do you launch collections?

Freía doesn’t follow traditional fashion seasons. Instead, we work with limited-edition drops, typically 2–3 per year. Each collection is carefully developed and produced in small quantities. Allowing us to focus on quality, design depth and reduced waste.

How should I care for Freía garments?

Our garments are lightweight and delicate in feel but made to last. Most pieces can be hand-washed or machine-washed cold inside a laundry bag. We recommend air drying and avoiding high heat. With the right care, your pieces will last for seasons to come. Which is better for both your wardrobe and the planet.
